Description

[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. A pair of charming daguerreotypes of an elderly gentleman holding a baby.

Quarter plate daguerreotype of a delightful trio, including an older gentleman sitting in an upholstered chair and holding a baby up to his face. An older woman stoops behind the chair, positioning her head just above theirs, in view of the camera. (Tarnishing to edges, with some spotting and surface wipes/hairline scratches.) Housed in a fully separated leatherette case (split at spine, loss to spine edge, surface wear). This playful portrait likely shows a pair of grandparents sharing a sweet moment with their young grandchild. -- Sixth plate daguerreotype portrait of the same man and baby from the previous portrait. He holds the youngster up near his face and smiles at the camera. (Soft focus, tarnishing to edges, few spots, minor surface scratches, some weeping to glass.) Housed in a half leatherette case. The image could be a copy of an original portrait given the very soft focus. -- Together, 2 daguerreotypes.
